Custom Packaging for Amazon FBA & E-commerce Sellers: FNSKU, Dimensional Weight and Master Cartons

Selling on Amazon, Shopify or your own store changes what "good packaging" means. The box has to survive a second journey — to the fulfilment centre, then to the customer — and it has to play by the platform's rules. Here is what e-commerce and FBA sellers should spec before they order.

FNSKU and barcode placement

Every unit sent to Amazon needs a scannable FNSKU. The simplest route is to print it onto the retail carton or a stickering area during production, so you are not labelling by hand at the warehouse. Tell us the barcode location and quiet-zone margin up front and we build it into the artwork — including a clean white area if the box is dark or full-bleed printed.

Dimensional weight is your real shipping cost

Carriers bill by dimensional weight, not just actual weight, above a threshold. A box that is a centimetre too tall can push a light product into a heavier bracket for every single unit, forever. Right-sizing the dieline to the product — with a fitted insert instead of loose void fill — is usually the single biggest freight saving on an e-commerce run. Send exact inside dimensions and we design to them.

Master cartons and case-pack

Your master (shipping) carton is what the fulfilment centre receives and what gets palletised. Spec the case-pack count, pallet pattern and total carton weight so a single case is safe to lift and stacks without crushing. We print the master carton with side markings, SKU and "made in China" where required, and can supply them as part of the same order as the retail boxes.

SIOC vs retail-ready

SIOC (ships in own container) means the product box goes straight to the customer with no Amazon overbox — less packaging, lower cost, but the box must be tough enough for the trip. Retail-ready means a shelf display carton for brick-and-mortar. Many brands run both from one factory: a mailer or rigid box for DTC, a folding carton for retail. We can produce both and keep the artwork consistent across formats.

OEM and private label runs

If you are a brand owner or aggregator rather than a manufacturer, you are buying OEM: your artwork, your SKU, our production. Low minimums matter here — mailer and corrugated boxes start at 100 pieces, folding cartons and rigid boxes at 200 — so you can test a listing before committing to a large run. A single sample first is the normal way to de-risk a new SKU.

Freight and DDP to the US

Most US sellers care less about the unit price and more about the landed, door price. We ship by sea or air and can quote DDP (delivered duty paid) to your US address or fulfilment centre, so the number you see includes freight and import duties — no surprise brokerage bill on arrival. Lead time is typically 18–25 days production plus transit; plan launches around that, not around a web price.
